The pacific

After the violent and beautiful story of Band of Brothers, S.Spielberg hits with another great mini-serie with the Pacific. For those who tells themselves, WTF is Band of brothers ? WTF the Pacific ?

Band of Brothers :

Europe, WW II. The story fallows the easy company, a company of parachutist. It begins with the invasion of Normandy by the Allies forces and finishes with the invasion of the Eagle's Nest.

I'm not going to speak a long time about Band of Brothers because it's not the main subject of the post, BUT, for my impressions, this mini-serie of 10 episodes is a good description of the war in the European conflit AND also a good movie of action, blood, war, violence, violence and more violence ;). The actors are really engaging. It's not because we're talking about war that they aren't any humour ! Some dialogue made me loose my breath !

Main drawback, the mini-serie is too much. It is played with american, and you can feel it, if you see what I mean. It is sometime a bit too much like : "Look at me. I'm american, I'm the best of the world!". Of course, it is really hyperbolic and the story showes well the emotions and the toughts of the soldiers like sorrow, solitude, their fears, etc

Talking about emotions, this is a very good transition to........

The Pacific :

The words that come to me in mind when I think of this(also) mini-serie is WOUA. It was really a slap in the face ! And I can still feel it ! Now, my vision of the war in videogames, and in general, has completly change ! Imagine then how strong was the slap !
The question then is why ?

Why ?

Let's start with the beggining and with the story.
This time, we fallow Marines, in the pacific fight with the japanese. It begins with Guadalcanal and finishes with the fight of Okinawa. You fallow different soldiers but they are all Marines and in charge of the mortar.

The first time I saw the trailer, I expected a good war serie. But it is really more than that. Spielberg managed to make an incredibly emotional and intense description of the war. The actors offers us an unbelievable psycologic picture of the soldiers.
Finished the time when it was like :" We are american, we are superheroes."
No. Now it is way more deep, more simple. Now it's like : " We are humans "

Wait for the ninth episode and you'll see what I'm talking about....

After the emotional side, the true war side. (because emotion is cool but not too much, ok? I don't want to see a Twilight-like movie ;)
Oh yeah buddy. You want war ? Well you have it ! The true one, with blood and open stomach where you can see all the inside being eaten by huge rats while other guys are being savagely behead.... ( Not for pussies ;) You can see the second world war's best awful fights man. And you better like awful things ! Oh yeah, trust me. Well, if you watch it, you'll be fix in the second episode ( the first is when they enlist themselves).
So, if you're afraid that there isn't enough violence, don't worry ! Isn't that cool ?

All those points I developt are ameliorate with an excellent playing of the actors who really fit in their character. And also with Spielberg and Hanks behind the camera.

This is the end

Yes, the end of the year has come. This is the end ,beautiful friend, the end :). (what ? You don't know Apocalypse now ?)

So, one school year has passed again and another will start over ....... cooool. Well, this year has been pretty calm with nothing really new. (except friends of course) I can appreciate it for this.

But, in the outside of the school, I am preparing for my journey to Mexico for one full year. I will leave in mid-July for one entire year. This was my only big project during this year. I went nowhere with the school, did nothing really exciting (except for the blog and I've done some pretty funny things with my friends ) but I had some really good time.

This year has also been full of new experiences. For the first time of my life, I took the bus. I also learned lots of new things, played lots of new videogames (tried wormux?), discovered lots of new movies,....

Ok, it's finished. So what's the big deal, you would tell me? Well, there isn't. I will soon go to Guadalajara ( and you will stay in the cold countries of Europe bouahahahahaha ;) and have great fun. I will learn spanish, make new friends, swim, discover a new country,... Yeah, it's gonna be great fun. I'm looking forward to being there. Only problem, schools starts back on the 3rd of august :( Well, I think I can get over it ^^.

Scientist manage something incredible. They managed to put in 3D some masterpieces of famous painteur such as Rembrand. Results are amazing and of course, if you are a serious person, you can skip the video, not for you... not. It is really unexpectable. It really is.

Another advert for a british serie this time. It is called Merlin. You know that if I do some advert for something, there is always a reason. Well this time, it's for a very personal reason.

Watch carefully this picture. On the front, you can see the actor featuring Merlin. But it gets a lot more interesting when you watch the background of the picture. Just look ! Can you see the castel behind ? Well actually, it's the castel of my village ! Yes, I swear ! They came to my village to shoot the serie. And they hired extras. I'm did not apply for it, but we can see people I know in it. And places too.

It is really funny for me to watch this videos because practicly all the places where it takes place, I know them. Just watch the trailer


After watching all the episodes of the serie, I can say it can be like by adults or teen but not from children. It is very dark and might impress a little to much your kids. So watch it, but with no kids around !

The forgotten battle

Did you know that the USA has been invaded by the japanese during world war 2 ? They haven't been invaded since the 2nd war of independance in 1812 ! Of course, it was just a few islands of the Aleutian Islands in the state of Alaska. But tacticly, this position is very important. The Earth is a globe, which makes it shorter to bomb the USA from the Aleutian Islands than the Pacifique Islands. "Hopefully", the main battles were in the Pacific. Hopefully because the weather in the nortic Islands is aweful. Imagine fighting in strong blizzard, huge fogs and with your feet and arms froze.

6 and 7 June 1942 : Japanese troops invade Attu and Kiska, the only american territories invaded during WW II. They tell the population "Now, you are japanese". The fact a part of the USA has been invaded is the cause of this oblivion

Auguste 1942, the american build an air base and start bombing the 2 islands.

Attu and Kiska were supplied by boat. And when the american gouverment discovered a date of one of those supplies, they send cruisers to intercept them. The battle took place on the 27 march 1943.You would tell me "yea, just another boat battle, nothing interesting". Yes, but this is an unsual battle. A VERY unsual battle. Only surface ships attent this battle. No planes or submarines. This is the only case in the hole pacific war. It was exactly as ship battles were in the XVIII centurie ! Only the power of the guns and the accuracy were important. No ships were sink but it is a strategical victory for the USA. The japanese decided to supply Attu and Kiska only by submarines after this battle.

After this unsual fight, a terrible battle was going to happen. The battle for retaking of Attu.It took place the 11th of May to the 30th of May 1943. This is the only battle in the hole war fought in the USA lands. With a very rough climat, the conditions of the fights were horrible. On the top of that, the japaneses were more defented then expected. The retaking should have last 72 hours but it took praticly a month. 2100 american soldiers were evacuated for disease or climate-related injury. And on the last day of the battle, the 2900 japanese soldier execute a banzai attack. This final attack shocked a lot the american. Only 29 japaneses survived the battle.
After the retaking of Attu, the retaking of Kiska began with the Operation Cottage. The american led the assault but the japanese had left the island secretly 2 weeks ago. 313 soldier died from friendly shot or from the remaining japanese traps.
Finally more than 5000 men died in something that could be called hell.Today, it's a peacefull land which stills contains sign of the war. I wanted to make a post for them because this campaign of the Aleutian Islands remains forgotten by everybody. I think they deserved it .

Today I will talk about one of the most famous movie of Steven Spielberg : "Jaws". I watched this movie months ago and hopefully, I didn't watch it alone. So if you want to watch it and have one of the most scariest experience of your live, watch it :

-Alone

- In the dark at midnight (when you are tired)

- In a huge house empty.

Scary night garanteed !!!

The story :

In a peacefull sea-side village of Florida, tourists take their vacations in harmony with the sun the sand and the sea, protected by the costguards.

During a party on the beach at night, two students decide to go apart a little. The girl runs in the water while the boy look for her. But as more as she goes far from the beach, the camera shows us her feets. And suddenly, whe see her diving accidently under the water, yelling ! She tries to reach the surface but she only manages to let us hear some pleas.

During this aweful part, I was there, crying, begging this to stop !

Finally, the day after, during the dew of the morning, the costguards discover something that could happen to be a body. After investigations, the body is the girls one. Well, the rest of it at least. Because the over is... well, I guess you need no descriptions.^^

After deliberation, the village don't close the beach, in order to preserve the economic situation.

The hero, a costguard, is against this decision and tries to kill this SHARK

(mouahahahaha).

So, during the day, he watches nonstop the sea. But his vigilance isn't enought. A Huge shark jumps out of the water and swallow a kid entirely from the head to the feet. Blood comes to the toes of the costguard, powerless......

After this tragical episode, the mother of the boy gives the hero an earful. He decide to strike back by swearing to KILL this bloody shark.

I will stop with the picture of the costguard and two other man, alone in the sea with a boat which is 2 times smaller than the shark. And it decide to attack..........

You'll know the end only IF you watch the movie. By the way, the end is NOT what YOU expect.... MOUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA !!!!!!!!!!!! (sadistic laught ;)

The american civil war

For today, I'm going to make a serious post for once. And I will talk about a dark part of the american history I am interested in, the american civil war.

Fort Sumter surrender the 13th April 1861 ,after 2 days of bombing where 5000 bullets were shoot and with no victims, represent the begginnig of the first modern war, the american civil war.

The american civil opposed the Union and the Confederacy. The republican president Abraham Lincoln, a partisan against the slavery, made a law to abolish slavery in all the USA. Immediatly the democrate, represented by the south countries of the USA, split with the rest of the north countries of the USA. As strange as it could seems, it's the democrate who were for the slavery and the republican against (yes, the party of G.W. Bush was against slavery and the party of B.Obama was for the slavery. Well, at that time only)

The civil war is one of the only conflit on the american land. It is also the first modern war were machineguns such as the gatling were used but also submarines.

For the greatest batlle to quote there is :
-The battle of Bull Run (21 july 1861), one of the worst battle for the Union

-The battle of Shiloh (6 and 7 April 1862), where the general of the Union Ulysses Simpson Grant won a difficult battle. (the attack began during the night, when the Union soldiers were sleeping)

-The battle of Antietam (17 september 1862), the bloodiest single-day battle with 23000 casualties with the both side add up.

-The battle of Gettysburg (1,2,3 July 1863), a turning point of the war for the Union but also unfortunaltly one of the bloodiest battle of the war with between 46000 and 51000 casualties.

-The battle of Appomattox (9 April 1865), the final battle of the Confederacy where the general Robert E. Lee fought against the general Ulysses S. Grant. On April 12, the army of Virginia is disband.

After the war, the slavery was formaly abolish. But the war produced 620 000 military casulties and with the civil it goes up to more than one millon. With the advent of more accurate rifled barrels, soldiers were devastated when standing in lines in the open. This gave birth to trench warfare, a tactic heavily used during World War I.

Well, I don't know if he is as strong as C.N is but he does love violence as much as he does. He comes from the serie Mr.Gun, one of the american series of the 80s. The story takes place in San Francisco and features Mr.Gun, a violent and sadist police officer. His way of working is a bit different of the usual one, which make it fun to watch.

Interesting game for strategic gamers

It's holidays,sun is up in the sky, the weather is gorgeous... Excellent conditions for playing computer game. So I will talk about a game which will come out the 23 rd February of 2010, Napoleon : Total War. I am myself a great fan of the Total War games and I swear I am eager to play it.
Napoleon : Total War takes place during the napoleonic wars (ooooooh impressive news) and your goal is to conquer Europe with the french armies or you can be with the european coalition against Napoleon. The game can also take place in America or in Egypt.

For the lover of history that I am, this videogame can be very educational. I know, it's a bit a game for grandfathers due to his slowness but if you like management and strategy, I really advise you this game. You can buy it around 35 € which is not too much for a videogame. The only drawback of the game is that if you want to play it with a high quality of graphic, you must nearly have a computer for competion.

OK. It's nearly time to eat, so, in order to torture me, I'm going to make a little post about japanese food.

Everybody knows sushi. But what is it composed of ? Well, you would have guest, rice.
But not only rice. You make a (small) ball with rice, then you put fish on it.

AAaahh, just look at it. It's wonderful. Well, now, I will teach YOU (yes, you) how to eat it traditionaly in Japan.
Just ONE rule. You MUST not chew, you have to swallow it without chewing.


Next, it will be yakitories. It looks like barbecue, it tast like barbecue but it is not barbecue. It's traditionaly made of chicken and vegetables. But today, you can find fish or beaf in it.



We will finish the trip with the famous ramen, well known thanks to Naruto( the manga). Ramen is composed of noodles and with different kind of sauce.


Now, I am licking my mouse, dying of starvation in front of my PC. I will probably NEVER make another post about food before eating.

You really don't expect the end which is very emotional and beautiful. At the end, you rediscover the movie and really, it appears as a magical and beautiful story. Ukiyoe (japanese art)

You remember me saying that I'm a fan of the japanese culture ? Well, manga is not the only thing. Ukiyoe are beatiful pictures painted by japanese artist. One of the best is Hokusai with his famous wave.

He was born in 1760 and he died in 1849. He has a nicknamed called "the old fool of the painting" (I swear I didn't invented it, promise). He affected a lot of europeans painters such as Claude Monnet or even Van Gogh(you know, the guy who cut his ear while shaving). He is sometimes call the father of the mangas.( I swear that I still haven't invented it)

or ( and if you're a boy, you should like it;) geishas, the waitresse in our culture(well, not quietly).
















But honestly, I prefer the ones of the everydays life. They are more interesting at watching.

The ipad ( or the way to spend 499 dollars for nothing)

Ok, I'll admit it, it's not completly useless. You can read books( WHAT !?! Have you seen the size of the screen. You'll hurt your eyes in no time!!!), you can put all the applications of the iTunes store( come on guys. My itouch can do it too) and you can do more things as useless. By the way, you still can't watch Adobe's videos, you can't add memory, there are no USB port and you can't phone.....
Well, in that case, my computer and my itouch together are 10 times better than the ipad. So really, if you want to spend 499 bucks ( only for the 16 giga version with no edge) you should better buy a PC. The only good reason why you could buy it, is because it's quite a nice object with a beautiful design. That's one point I can admit.
Do what you want, it's your choice.

AVATAR the results

Ok, now I'm going to speak about something big. Really big. Because I am going to speak about AVATAR. The faces are incredibly real. The world is fascinating with all his details. A language was created just for the movie : the Na'vi.(soon you will have to learn na'vi at school. Just wait and see ;)

BUT the story SHOULD have been a really more interesting. Really, if they wouldn't have been pictures, this movie would be bad, really bad. This is THE bad point of the movie and it is why it doesn't worth a Star Wars, way not !

My Father

Today I'm back to school so you imagine what it means. Yes, work is back
. So, I have to talk about someone that I love or admire. And I think I can dedicate it to my father. He was born in 1969, the 22nd of July, the day after the first man on the moon. That's why it is very easy for me to remember of his birthday. He was first a pilot in the army but now, he is a private pilot for a private compagny (haha too bad, you used private twice, you fail).

Now, you can get your tissue out.

The reasons why I admire him is that he is very funny, very gentle, very patient and very present. Well, we can say to describe him is that he is "very". In order for me to be able to go abroad for one year, he spent lot of time for the registration form. When I feel that I'm going to kill my teachers because I don't understand my ***** homework, he helps me and explains me.

One more important thing about him. He is brillant in computer science. Very useful when you don't understand why your game won't install on the PC or when the Internet doesn't work.

When I have birthdays or parties, even if it finishes late, he comes to pick me up.
